The holiday town of Hermanus experiences a phenomenal natural event each year. Between July to November, The mighty Southern Right whales come to breed and calf within the towns famed Walker Bay. It is a truly awe inspiring sight to see in person.
Hermanus is famous for its “Whale crier” who alerts the townsfolk and visitors of the presence of whales in the bay by blowing on a dried sea weed horn.
With many restaurants in the area, its an obvious stop for lunch.
After a delicious meal we have chance to walk through the town to enjoy the sights and do some shopping if you wish.
The route back to Cape Town takes us through the apple growing region of Elgin, past Steenbras dam and over Sir Lowry’s Pass, where we stop at the viewpoint to enjoy the scenery over False Bay and the Cape Flats looking toward the Table Mountain range. We continue past Somerset West arriving back in Cape Town.
